How cool looking is this basket? It was formerly used to carry roosters to cockfights in SE Asia. The detailing of the handle and the woven pattern was really unique.

Me & Ro jewelry

This customer was wearing so many bright colors, textures and
some great jewelry that I had to share it with all of you.

Rachael was wearing a gorgeous green in her bag, her shirt
and in her necklace which she made!

Two Professors of English, Peter and Karlyn, had a ball hearing the poetry that Jeanine Payer chooses to engrave onto her jewelry: Shakespeare, Walt Whitman, Rumi, Rilke.

Gretchen Mattox, a friend of Peter's, mentioned that some of her poetry was chosen by Jeanine Payer to be engraved on some of her pieces. I was able to show Peter, a pair of earrings in our case, with one of Gretchen's quotes.

Peter's t-shirt on the right has the word sprinkles on it. I don't know why, but, I wanted to take a photo of it...

Freshness...

A customer commented that Vishnu's sari reminded them of a William Morris print.

summer peaches & zucchini and strawberries in blue cartons

I loved Chris's matching bag, shoes and wallet. I'm very much into packaging and graphics and this #2 stenciled onto Chris's t-shirt pocket definitely was right up my alley.

I'm still on the hunt for that simple summer outfit that combines comfort and style and I think I found one beside the cute fitted blazer over jeans look.

This woman was wearing a simple black sundress with a straight neckline (in that sort of crinkly cotton fabric), that went straight to the ankle, black flat sandals with a funky knot design, a bold leather cuff bracelet and a Me & Ro necklace with sanskript lettering that translated to "Fearlessness" on a small gold rectangle hanging off a thin gold chain.

I missed taking a photo of her bag which was quite large but seemed to blend well with her outfit.

You gotta love these bright yellow boxes!

In a new light...

Sometimes, when it's quiet at Cursive, I'll take a few minutes and stand at this window watching the coming and goings on Broadway through a small collection of terrariums.

Notebooks from Nantaka Joy

I love the slight shimmer that her textured designs gives off when light hits it.

The earring on the left reminds me of lace maple cookies; On the right: the Jeanine Payer "shirley" necklace was worn out by a 14-year old girl who fell in love with the necklace. It looked great layered with her other necklaces.

This woman's dress reminded me of Jill Bliss's designs below

simple bracelet by Marni

summer outfit: cute blazer over jeans

I've been seeing a cute uniform on women this summer:
fitted summer blazer over jeans with either flats or the birkenstock "Gizeh" which I've been meaning to buy for the past year...

Malikah, an attorney & budding jewelry designer came browsing into Cursive on Wednesday afternoon wearing this exact outfit, however, I did not have my camera with me so here's my image of her:

Theme: summer-y stripes
I first saw her bag and her shoes:
Bag by kate spade - slight trapezoid shape in black with flat wooden handles and cutouts.
There was also a piece of wide striped fabric down the middle on both sides.
Blue jeans with striped seersucker flats, i think, from jcrew
- pink oxford shirt with her own necklace draped over the open neckline
- light blue jacket that was slightly lighter than the pink oxford which punched with color

Lovely Accessories

Textures:
dark curly hair
light brown rectangular glasses
freckles
and taupe top
all come together with the
crinkly scarf in warm mustards...

... match the bracelet on her friend's wrist...

I was on my way to work and this woman (above) passed me on the street. I couldn't get my camera out fast enough to capture her orange top with straw basket, darn! So how serendipitous it was when the same woman walked into Cursive 10 minutes later. It turned out she is a fellow retailer and co-owner of Zoomies, a stylish shop selling unique dog & cat accessories, located downtown on Hudson Street.

*

There are two Julies that are both vendors of Cursive and they both have great style. Julie (above) has a fantastic jewelry collection along with a certain style of mixing vintage with modern wear.

*

This top, worn by a designer for Polo, looked so cozy. I especially love the soft collar and elastic style cuffs.

*

Ah, bags! One of the loves of my life. My 2nd vendor friend Julie (on left), has a great knack for wearing jcrew and always the brightest patterns and colors! The pattern of her shorts went so well with her hable construction bag.
E., (on the right) also has a knack of having great accessories & bags. Her dress came without the wide black scarf which now gives it some pizazz! I love the classic shape of her bag which is nice and shallow so one can find everything at a glance. Every so often it is good for me to carry smaller bags like E.'s, however, I begin to miss lugging half of my apt in my bag...

the language of life

This straw bag by kate spade will brighten any on/off rainy day...

*

I had a wonderful conversation with this mother & daughter (above) who were in NYC for the Food Show last weekend. I had been eyeing the dress on the right (from jcrew) and liked how she layered it with a tank underneath! Green, one of my favorite colors!

They had been peering into the Jeanine Payer case and the daughter showed off a pair of Jeanine's earrings, given to her by her mother, for graduation.

"we are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams".

*

For all the marbles we've sold, this is the first time that I had seen a customer divide them by color scheme.

I thought the pattern of his friend's dress with his own bright orange shirt reflected his color choices of the marbles for his mother.

*

Another one of my customers, who bought the "Taylor" necklace by Jeanine Payer, came in to show me how it looked on a shorter cord and I thought it looked so unique against the texture of her Issey Miyake dress.

*

A pattern on a dress worn by a young girl caught my eye. It's all about dresses this summer.

*

textures and patterns - the necklace on the right is designed by an artist in Montana using Japanese paper. I am going to send her this photograph worn by a customer at Cursive.

By day's end, a group of women, dressed in some colorful summer dresses, came in maybe to escape the rain. I noticed that one of them was wearing a veil covered in various objects that had been attached to the veil. The woman is getting married and all of the objects had been made and sent by friends and family. This was to good to pass up.

I had never seen anything like this before and loved the idea! I've been to many a bridal shower and have created a bouquet, to be carried by the bride at her dress rehearsal, using ribbons that had been wrapped around gifts at the bridal shower.
