Hanging forest...

you bet! Here are the birch poles and winterberry in their new incarnation for the fall and winter decor of Amagansett. We have really high ceilings and hanging things have been a staple since we opened. Once Holiday has arrived the forests will come alive with forest animals themed ornaments and wonderful old school garlands... I can hardly wait to show you the complete look.

My work...

is never done! We took a trip out to Amagansett on Sunday to start the Holiday transformation.
Last week we took a little jaunt to the flower district and bought a bunch of Birch poles and these wonderful winter berries. The poles were 9 feet long and had to be tied to the roof of our car and then once home chopped down to fit into the car for the long drive out east. Luckily there was a crew working on a new restaurant on our block who took pity on Douglas trying to cut them with a hand saw and gladly did it for him... gotta love NY sometimes.
Anyway, next post will be the finished work.

Marfa to shop....

well not quite~
Shopping runs in the family, as you can see even Noodle loves to window shop.
We took a mini vacation to visit friends in Austin so we road-tripped our way to Marfa. We had a wonderful time and I'd say the highlight was driving to see the Prada Marfa shop built in 2005 by Elmgreen and Dragset. It's quite the commentary on shopping and luxury, you see it's sealed up and will eventually be reclaimed by the desert. Even sick with the flu I appreciated the isolation and encapsulated fashion time warp. If you have been what did you think ??

My Grandma...

my mentor. My family is one of craft, everyone does something creative in their spare time, as you can see by this newspaper clipping from a few years back, my Grandma was the creative force behind us all. Up until the last few months of her life she crocheted everyday and most days, all day. Everything was given away to anyone who needed or wanted something made, her very last project was making 200 hats for cancer patients in Colorado.
As she is no longer with us I feel that the love of "making" will keep her so close to me as I  make my own stuff.
I would not be who I am without her encouragement, support and mostly the love she gave me throughout my life. Grandma I love you.

Moving...

and moving on.
Yesterday while clearing off my inspiration board, in preparation to move my office, I uncovered this note from the wonderful Cynthia Morgan. Cynthia was an amazing part of my life being that she brought us (Motel Deluxe) into Kate's Paperie, you see Cynthia was the buyer extraordinaire for Kate's. Her buying style is exactly how I approach buying for Cursive and it's simple, buy what you like and go deep. Cynthia, once she liked your line (and you for that matter), would bring you in in a big way and support you. I believe it's one of the things that made Kate's so wonderful in those years.
Cynthia sent me this note on one of her favorite designers, R. Nichols, she loved Nick's line and did the same for him as she did for us. I too have a deep appreciation for Nick's work and have him in all of our shops... Cynthia passed on way to young but in a way I can still feel her spirit guiding me. "Go big or go home"

Walk on by....

yesterday while walking through Grand Central I had to double-take as I saw one of our exclusive bags by designer Ted Tyler walk by. I am always so happy to see our
customers loving and using our finds, it really validates all of our hard work for the shops.

Black, White and...

Red all over. An early sneak at fall has arrived at the GCT shop. Beautiful matte black and shiny red with a little bright white thrown in for our new porcelain collection.
